Hey guys, I just got a Willem Programmer and I also bought an Adapter for 27C160 Eproms. The programmer came with a disc that has a lot of info on how to program different eproms but it doesn't show at all how to use the adapters. I think I had it hooked up correctly with A 19,20,21 all going to the correct places. When I select 27C160 as the device it says require adapter where it would normally tell me how to set things. All it shows is how to set the DIP switches the cool little picture is gone. Is there I particular way to install this adapter? How am I supposed to know how to set the Jumpers if it doesn't show me? The adapter didn't come with any info. I tried a blank test on the eprom and it said it was empty so I started programing and got an error almost instantly. I tried the blank test again and it said it was not empty so it obviously started righting. I think I had most of the Jumpers set correctly. The right light came on whenever I tried burning and verifying it. This means its need Vpp which I thought was set right so would the light go off if it had the right voltage. Also the Power Supply I was using had a 9V 1.3 A output, would it hurt to use my laptop power supply which outputs 17V or does it only take what it needs?
Sorry I am a noob and very new to this stuff and I have only been reading up on it for a week but good info is hard to come by. Thanks for any help.
P.S. It is using PCB 5.0 softare.
Chris

Re: Help with DIP 42 Adapter
Can you give a reference ? Here are a lot of versions.I just got a Willem Programmer and I also bought an Adapter for 27C160 Eproms
Apply 9V 1.3AAlso the Power Supply I was using had a 9V 1.3 A output, would it hurt to use my laptop power supply which outputs 17V or does it only take what it needs?
SW provide DIP switches for selected chip. All it shows is how to set the DIP switches
Attached picture show generic Willem jumper settings.
Note, 27C160 require 12.7Vpp and 5.7 Vcc.This means its need Vpp which I thought was set right so would the light go off if it had the right voltage.
You can check voltages on ZIF32 pins in Test H/W mode.
One LED is power on , 2 LEDs activ Vpp and activ Vcc . Vpp usually yellow.
Usually we refer to 0.98dxxx version. It is using PCB 5.0 softare

Re: Help with DIP 42 Adapter
Ezo,
Thank you for the response. Below is the programmer I have and the adapter. I set the jumper to default and the VPP to 12.5 (it says 12.5 on mine, 12.7?) and the Vcc is at 5.
On the adapter the 3 wires. Should the Vpp on adapter go to Vpp on ICSP of main board. And then A19,A20 to Expand Jumper A19, A20. There is 2 A19 Which A19? Thank you for the help, sorry for being a noob.

Re: Help with DIP 42 Adapter
Your programmer is pcb5.0e smd by Kee Electronics.Below is the programmer I have and the adapter.
Additional jumper settings - close jumper Open3.6, set pcb5.0 (5.0<>3B) for SW 0.98dxx, VDC (VUSB/VDC) for external power supply .
Any A19 on programmer board. I usually connect to pin next to P1.There is 2 A19 Which A19?
You can check A19 voltages on both pins. Go Test H/W , tick A19, measure ~5.0V on both A19 headers.
I have not found such adapter before. Usually Vpp header not applied on 27C160 adapters.Should the Vpp on adapter go to Vpp on ICSP of main board.
Chip is getting Vpp from ZIF32/1.
Place adapter without eprom, without wire from Vpp header. Keep 27C160 settings. Go Test H/W. Tick 1-Vpp, measure 12.5(12.7) on 27C160 socket pin32 and header marked Vpp.
Vpp voltage can be in a range 12.5...12.8. Note , you have change jumper for Vcc=5.7 to operate 27C160 programming .I set the jumper to default and the VPP to 12.5 (it says 12.5 on mine, 12.7?) and the Vcc is at 5.
