The MCP2515 from Microchip Technology is a standalone Controller Area Network (CAN) controller that supports the CAN specification, version 2.0B. It can send and receive standard and extended data as well as remote frames. The MCP2515 has two acceptance masks and six acceptance filters that are used to filter out unwanted messages, lowering the overhead of the host MCU. The MCP2515 communicates with microcontrollers (MCUs) through an industry standard Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI).
